Connecting space across the aether, Khai brings the soul of the American south and fills it with the emotions that come from all endured.
The music they create keeps heart at the forefront, but it is blended into places meant to allow the discomfort to settle; a storyteller with a message of hope to all spaces to be welcomed into.
With the intention to bring honor and healing to the experience of life, their lyrics explore opening up the dialogue within ourselves that we allow to be silenced by the world and all that we absorb being contained within it.
Inspired by every beautiful thing they have experienced, they attempt to bring a collective of perspective that desires to be heard, to be felt, to be experienced; with truth, with love, and with learning.
Giving credit to Spirit every lesson of song, the Spirit that gave voice and melody to the child - then only called Ashley - before words and understanding flowed in her body, that Spirit is what leads Khai still today. Together, they write songs and messages for those who need reminded of all they hold within themselves and guide it back to center.
Tennessee, mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Nevada, Louisiana, Indiana, Texas, Ohio, Virginia, New York and even as far south as the rainforests and villages surrounding Santo Tomas Guatemala, and everywhere in between- Khai has been blessed to sing into the winds and hearts of many lands and walks and lives.
Along Khai’s journey their voice has reminded listeners of the artists that gave them the songbooks in life to sing along with such as Jewel, Amy Lee, Birdy, Adele, among many others. Khai gives credit and thanks to all and other creators that have inspired Khai’s journey like Pat Monahan and Hector Maldonado of Train, Secondhand Serenade and Mayday Parade, A day to Remember, Bring me the Horizon, Avril Levine, Christina Aguilera, Cher, and duos such as Alex & Sierra and The Civil Wars, and of course Lady Gaga and Pat Benatar’s collaborate works - Khai’s head DJ pulls from and expansive collection of music.
Khai’s latest original, “Cry For The World”, is a call to make space for the things that truly matter and cry out for our attention.
A pice from the bridge:
“Hungry they become, as they search for light in a plastic sun.”
This song is a beckoning, a plea, both to hear and to care. For those who already do, a resonance to hold in community and fill the space within all of our hearts with Divine recognition.
Other messages and works such as “The Movies I Write”, “Your Side of the Door” and “Mother” all share stories of longing and love and loss, tying it together with the sparks for understanding how these experiences shape our hope.
The message within these works is to bring that spark to the surface and allow it to consume the despair.
The tracks “Broken Either Way”, “They Are Waiting” and “Cynics” draw light to the essence within ourselves that we allow to be shadowed by powers we define as greater than our own. Khai challenges that narrative, giving anthems to carry hearts to their next destined place, to give way to our own strength given to us by the love we embody.
Khai’s desire is to cast light upon the darkness and leave the world humming towards peace.
May the message be shared.
